Karen Prather CAS Project 2013-2014 Sweetest Day of the Year

Our group consists of myself and Liz Cottingham. Our project aims to enrich the lives of less fortunate individuals throughout our community by reviving a past tradition, recognized in the 1920's, known as the Sweetest Day of the Year. We will be creating and organizing small tokens such as donations of candy and hand-made cards to give to the homeless community and nursing homes. We will organize donations from August 2013 to October 2014 for our IB CAS Project.

December 2013

This month we volunteered at Homeward bound and served a meal there. We've decided to further the effects of our projects by personally reaching out to nursing homes and homeless shelters in our communities throughout the duration of our project. We've also been working on our cards to give out next year.

November 2013

We continued making cards for our cause and will begin targeting local businesses about donations.

October 2013

This month we began making cards. We met at a local coffee shop and made approximately 25 cards that will be distributed throughout our community. The cards are simple, however we hope they will brighten the day of someone less fortunate.

September 2013

This month Liz Cottingham and I just decided what we would be doing for our project. We've decided to contact local businesses in regards to donations of sweets and small gifts for the homeless and nursing-home communities throughout Grand Junction. We will also be making small cards using supplies available at our school. This will be the bulk of our project because we aim to make as many cards as possible.
